We MUST get our beauty rest! (Yes, even if you're a man).
Research has shown that sleep deprivation is associated with decreased amounts of leptin in our bodies, which is an appetite suppressing hormone and increased amounts of ghrelin, an appetite stimulating hormone.
When I'm sleep deprived...I have those "Cravings" for sweets or snacks more often.....Or larger portions than normal. I sometimes feel like I could eat all day. Do you?
FACT: Sleep-deprived people aren’t just hungrier in general. Studies have shown that they’re specifically
prone to craving carbs such as cookies, candy and chips. They also tend to purchase MORE food in WEIGHT and Calories than the well rested person. WOW.
The bottom line: Head to the grocery store well rested. You’ll make healthier food choices, and you may make economically smarter ones, too. It’s easier to compare the price of yogurt brands when your brain is firing on all cylinders. When we're in a hurry - or our brain power is lower...we tend to grab the first things we see without looking at weight, cost or ingredients. Happy Shopping.....and sleeping!
