Some of the best advise I've received was "Let your dreams be bigger than your fears", "Let your Actions speak louder than your words", and My Momma always said....."Dream big...let nothing hold you back".
All easier said than done sometimes....but great advise nonetheless!
So, after years of exploring what makes people tick, reading many books on this topic and doing some extensive "people" research....I know for sure today that the dreaded 4 letter word FEAR can make or break us as individuals.
Fear is the voice that tells us the probability of failure is greater than that of success. FAITH is the voice (hopefully louder) that says DO IT ANYWAY!
So lets go with that........DO IT ANYWAY! What are some of the things you've been putting off? What are some of the things you've been yearning for. I don't necessarily mean material things - but they certainly can be. It's good to be saving for an event, a new car, etc.....that will enhance your life.....but mainly I want to talk here about things that are PULLING AT YOUR HEARTSTRINGS!!!
The things that make your heart flutter or tummy rumble when you think about them....the things that are in your head that you have not yet experienced or only had a little taste of but want more of!
Sit down in comfy clothes, a good cup of Java, Hot Cocoa or Tea and begin to reflect on what worked for you in 2015 and How To Make 2016 Your Best Year yet! Without hesitation.....MAKE YOUR LIST!
1. Ask yourself:What worked well for me this year?
2. Next, ask yourself:What would I like to improve in 2016?
3. Then, ask yourself:What is the one thing I would like to master in 2016?
4. Finally, MAKE A DECISION.......on what you're committed to achieving!
What do you want in these 10 areas of your life?
5. Pencil in your goals- on just ONE PAGE! You'll understand why the pencil.....instead of pen sooner than later. Our Goals and attitudes about what's important will change over time. When #1 through #3 begin to change and unfold for you.....it's almost certain the rest will change or your ideas bout them will for sure.
Then once this has been done spend a moment expanding your thinking by stretching your imagination out to the end of 2016 to see which achievements are going to make you feel most fulfilled.
Here are some of mine.......which will surely expand and change:
1. Better Time Management
2. TONE Body.....once and forever!
3. Join a PILATES CLASS.....for much needed CORE Strength - especially for lower back.
4. More Volunteer Work........give more - receive ten-fold!
5. $ Financial goals.....Spend less, live more!
5. Expand my business!
My blog today, January 1, 2016 is all about doing the things we've been putting off (I hate the word procrastination).....and doing it with BELIEF in yourself......that just the act of doing it is SUCCESS!
Some of my research findings (and pretty much common knowledge) is that Fear of failure is one of the greatest fears people have. Fear of failure is closely related to fear of criticism and fear of rejection. Successful people overcome their fear of failure. Therefore the opposite is true.... Many Unsuccessful people are completely incapacitated by Fear. Which will you choose?
The Law of Feedback states there is no failure; there is only feedback. Successful people look at mistakes as outcomes or results, not as failure. Unsuccessful people look at mistakes as permanent and personal. IT'S IMPORTANT RIGHT HERE....RIGHT NOW.....to ABSOLUTELY KNOW that FEELINGS ARE NOT FACTS. It may FEEL (lol) that way....but let's forge ahead!
Here's a New Year's A-B-C- Exercise designed specifically for all of us over-thinkers;) Together, let's change our THINKING into DOING this Year....and rid ourselves of the fears that Keep us out of the game! I've also found that although our goals are personal to us.....Doing this with a BUDDY, coach or trusted friend helps keep us accountable and MOVING FORWARD to a happier, healthier self!
A. Be AUTHENTIC! Be yourself, only yourself, and fully yourself. This isn’t as easy, or as simple, as it sounds. We have so many influences in our lives, so many idols to imitate, so many peers whose admiration we crave and so many gurus telling us what we have to do to be successful. Just remember that your success plan isn't sustainable if it depends on you being anything you aren’t, or anything less than everything you can be.
B. Schedule Time Each week (alert on my phone works best for me) to do ONE thing to move forward, under each category on your list! For example.....This week under Volunteer, I'll make a short list of the charities or organizations I'm passionate about, or do research to formulate that list. I may not do anything but that. One thing Under #3, join a Pilates class...would be to go visit some studios, or at least research all their locations. You get the idea! By doing one thing each week under each category.....you'll start seeing your goals and desires for your life materialize quicker than you think!
C. Determine whether you're the slightest bit happier......with each category! If not, use that eraser on your pencil to add, change or tweek the goal! But keep DIGGING DEEP! There's NOTHING worse than keeping a goal...if IT NO LONGER MATTERS. Don't remain so strict with yourself, JUST BECAUSE YOU WROTE IT DOWN AS A GOAL! I've learned over time that this is plain and simply SELF-SABOTAGE!
GO ON NOW...........HAVE FUN........BE HAPPY!
